PRESS RELEASE

Peter

KA-TYA’s next bit of songwriting magic is Peter, the poignant and disarmingly sincere story of Wendy and her Peter. The song gently unravels Wendy’s vivid inner world and her daring spirit as she is left behind, time and again, by a fun-loving and careless Peter. Understated in arrangement and delicately crafted, the song draws you in and leaves you hanging until the end as it takes flight in an old-Hollywood finale. Peter is equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful.

Soviet-born KA-TYA (aka Katia Pshenichner) playfully defies genres, dancing boldly from haunting, synth-driven ballads to joyfully irreverent quirk-pop. The elfin singer-songwriter’s unconventional melodicism and theatrical vocal styling pay tribute to her Russian folk heritage, while her unabashed sense of whimsy reflects her teenage years in Australia.

Peter was recorded and produced by Nicholas Lam (dxHeaven) and captured on camera by New York director and actor Stephen Stocking. The resulting music video is an intimate peak into the song’s creative process and a treasure trove of subtle visual evolution and storytelling.

Peter follows KA-TYA’s latest adventures with genre, including the release of 90’s garage pop anthem Heart Around Your Name, which “turns the sweet awkwardness of teen desire into a fun, cheeky and flirty anthem to boy-crazy love” (Vents Magazine) and her debut music video Little House, lauded an “indie dark pop masterpiece” by Tone Deaf. “Filled with drama and sorrow, KA-TYA has nailed the art of hooking an audience with her haunting vocals and emotional sensuality” (Happy Magazine).
