PRESS RELEASE

New York, NY - KA-TYA has just released her debut music video, ‘Little House’, a low-fi wintertime memoryscape that features footage of her as a child and her young parents in Ukraine in the early 90s. The video cracks open the heartache underpinning her 2015 debut single ‘Little House’, which was lauded by Australian music industry blog Tone Deaf as ‘an indie dark pop masterpiece’.

Soviet-born KA-TYA (aka Katia Pshenichner) playfully defies genres, dancing boldly from haunting, synth-driven ballads to joyfully irreverent quirk-pop. The elfin singer-songwriter’s unconventional melodicism and theatrical vocal styling pay tribute to her Russian folk heritage, while her unabashed sense of whimsy reflects her Australian upbringing.

After discovering a stock of dusty VHS footage from her childhood in Ukraine, she teamed up with NY actor Stephen Stocking to create a video that plays on the song’s haunting nostalgia, weaving flashes of memory and color that are just out of reach, ‘a poetic dance between memory and reality, the effortlessness of this production and the quality of its filmmaking make it an absolute standout’ (Happy Mag).

The music video follows the recent release of her jangly indie pop single 'Beautiful Faces' premiered by The Deli (NY), a 'supremely catchy and glorious piece of indie-pop perfection' (Barrygruff).

Created and edited by Stephen Stocking and filmed by Yuriy Chubenko.

To celebrate the release of the video, KA-TYA will be performing at the Bowery Electric on Friday, March 9th at 8pm. The Facebook event is here
